| Welcome |
Once again we welcome all of our clients, especially those of you reading the Fairport News for the first time!
| Rogers Ramblings |
It has been an interesting few months since June, with our state election here in WA resulting in a change of government and the world credit crisis giving the media plenty to talk about. We certainly live in interesting and also challenging and relatively difficult times. Fairport had a very good result for the year just past, despite it all. We look forward to potentially even better in the current year. We thank you all for your ongoing support. We also thank our tireless distributors who continue to work hard for us out at the coal face. We welcome Don Silva to the distributor list. Don has bought out the Booth Technology business here in WA and has been a regular attendant of our weekly in-house staff software training sessions.
As of last week, Fairport is once again a sponsor of Nuffield Scholarships. Our annual support will contribute to the cost of sending two scholars to special farm management courses in the US and the UK. We welcome this opportunity to put some of our profits back into the support of the elite and cutting edge young farmers here in Australia.
Our developers have been very busy adding new features to PAM these past months. The IAR section of PAM has been undergoing to total re-write and is now very close to ready for a full release. Some neat features have been added to various parts of the PAM program and will come on stream in due course. With a major project for AAco (over 3000 hours) nearing completion, we look forward to getting back to our other long “feature wish lists”. Several of our programs are overdue for some attention, so it will be great to get some traction on these and some new projects.
I hope by now that you are all aware that the list of fixes and features in the PAM software are constantly updated and available on the web site – on the Support Page.
As always, please don't hesitate to contact us for any assistance you may require or any suggestions you may like to offer us.
STAFF MATTERS
We recently welcomed William Tow to the Fairport team. William comes to Fairport with a degree from Curtin in Information Technology and Systems, along with previous technical support experience and knowledge of programming and database management. His role includes program testing and back-end support. Since he arrived he has been working on a huge project which involves the building of an Automated Quality Assurance system that runs through our software checking for bugs. All of this is done “hands free” – a bit like “Auto Steer”. This is now very close to completion for the PAM software and when installed, will run itself each night – compiling the software, then installing it and running through every data entry screen & report checking for errors. All other programs will be getting the same treatment. One of the side benefits of William's work is that he is becoming extremely familiar with all aspects of the Fairport programs.
Mikhail, our mapping and precision farming programmer has been working off-site in Russia for the past three months. Mik has been working on a re-write of the mapping system, beginning with the FarmStar module. We look forward to seeing him back and getting to look at all his work. Mik returns to Australia with his wife to settle back into life here for at least another two years.

Joke for the month: The Half-Wit
A man owned a small farm in Wales. The Department of Labour claimed he was not paying proper wages to his staff and sent a representative out to interview him.
‘I need a list of your employees and how much you pay them,' demanded the rep.
‘Well,' replied the farmer, ‘there's my farm hand who's been with me for 3 years. I pay him £200 a week plus free room and board.'
‘The cook has been here for 18 months, and I pay her £150 per week plus free room and board.'
‘Then there's the half-wit. He works about 18 hours every day and does about 90% of all the work around here. He makes about £10 per week, pays his own room and board, and I buy him a bottle of whiskey every Saturday night. He also sleeps with my wife occasionally.'
‘That's the guy I want to talk to... the half-wit,' says the agent.
'That would be me,' replied the farmer.
